Tom has been with Tri-County Health Department for 30 years working in Adams, Arapahoe and Douglas Counties. He served for the since 2012 as the Deputy Director and for the 4 years prior to that as Director of Environmental Health managing programs including: food protection, child care centers, pools and spas, individual sewage disposal systems, vector control, body art, land use planning and a variety of solid and hazardous waste oriented activities. Tom has presented at numerous local, state and national environmental health, public health and preparedness conferences. From 2002-2008 he managed the bioterrorism; pandemic disease and all hazard preparedness activities including planning, training and exercises From 1992 to 2002 he provided regulatory and technical oversight of cleanup activities at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal (RMA) superfund site and other hazardous waste management projects. Local public health agency involvement in these largely state and federally managed programs occurred to assure local community concerns were well represented in the cleanup process selection and execution. For several years Tom provided technical assistance to small business regarding compliance with EPA hazardous waste regulations and served on/ led the Douglas County Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC). He also coordinated TCHD’s household chemical collection programs. Tom spent his first two years with Tri-County as an environmental health specialist inspecting food service establishments and individual sewage disposal systems, investigating foodborne disease outbreaks and handling general sanitation related complaints.
